Eroding Love

Feelings break down over time

leading to the degradation

of my worth in your eyes – until I am but an ant crushed

beneath your violent thumb.

Your feelings are pulling away

like the waning ocean tide, and I am betwixt you and the rocky shore, crumbling underneath your powerful wave.

Your body slams into me, like your curled fist against the rental wall, breaking me up

and tossing pebbles into your

salty depths below the foam.

I will never be constructed the same as I was before you.

I can reassemble myself,

reconfigure and realign,

but who I was is long gone. You’ve gripped my very being and stuffed it in a sandbag, piling

on grain after sharp grain into my confinement made of burlap.

I’m drowning in every version of you.
